I do all of my own treatment on my blades. I have a temperature controlled kiln and proper quench oils, quench plates and cryogenics. My hardness tester helps confirm processes.
My favorite steel to work with is S35VN. It works great for most uses and is easy to work with. I also use AEB-L and CPM-Magnacut.
Carbon steels require some care from the user to prevent rust. I like to use stainless san mai and Blue #2 in Kitchen and Hunting knives. I also use K390, White#2, V-toku, 1084, Z-Wear, and W2.
As you can see from my photo gallery, I like to use figured wood for handles. I get it from a variety of suppliers and I use both stabilized and non stabilized (for wood that does not require it). Honduran Rosewood and ironwood are favorites.
Camel bone, mammoth tooth, mammoth ivory, buffalo horn, and stag are common materials that I have in stock. They look good and most are affordable. However, Mammoth is a premium material.
Linen and Canvas Micarta are the best sythetic materials available for knife handles in my opinion. It is more durable than wood, feels great in hand, provides grip when wet, and looks better with age and use.
